As a salon suite manager, I've had the wonderful experience of seeing so many professionals start (or continue) their journeys as independent beauty professionals.
Opening your own salon suite is an exciting step forward in every professional's career. It’s the moment you go from working for someone else to fully stepping into your independence. You get to build a business on your terms, with your style, and your future in mind. At OMY! Beauty Suites, we’ve seen how empowering this move can be, and we’re here to help you prepare every step of the way.
Design the Experience and Set the Pace.
Before you decorate a wall or bring in your first client, take time to think about what kind of experience you want to create. Are you aiming for a luxury vibe? A cozy, intimate atmosphere? A clean, modern spa feel? Try to imagine every emotion that you want your client to experience from the moment they land on your website, or booking link, to the minute they arrive. Your vision will guide everything from your décor choices to your service menu, to the fragrance you set in your room. Don't sit in this phase for too long, action and speed are the most important traits in this step! It is important that you start servicing clients immediately so that the word gets around, and people find your spot easier.
2. Organize Your Business Basics
A salon suite gives you the freedom of ownership, but with that comes responsibility. The minute you're able to make your responsibilities your B****, is the moment you're going to see why you made this decision.
Make sure your licenses are up to date, and consider whether you’ll need a business license, liability insurance, or a retail sales permit if you plan to sell products. At OMY, we’re always here to guide you on what’s required so you’re inspection-ready. Our goal is to make difficult things, a little less difficult. We recommend setting up your booking system ASAP so that you can start booking clients.
3. Create a Budget & Plan for Expenses
Think about more than just rent. Include products, tools, décor, and marketing in your budget. The great thing about suites is that overhead is much lower than running a full salon, but it’s smart to map out your numbers so you know exactly what you need to succeed. This is one of those responsibilities that can seem hard to wrangle, but once you map out your financial structure & procedures, things will become a breeze. Keep in mind that your business IS going to grow.. so it is important to understand how to leverage your financial situation to continue growing your business.
4. Set Up Your Marketing & Brand Identity
Your suite isn’t just a room — it’s your brand. Take time to choose a name, a logo, and colors that represent your style. Make sure your social media and booking platforms are polished and ready to showcase your new space. At OMY, we even offer free monthly content creation days so you always have high-quality visuals to grow your business. We ensure that you have ZERO excuses to post on social media. We've seen firsthand, the difference, that posting high quality content can make. Your first impression is VERY important, both in the real-world AND on social media.
5. Plan Your Client Transition
If you’re coming from a salon or another setup, make sure your clients know what’s happening. Share why you are moving! That might mean more privacy, more personalized care, and an upgraded experience for them. Create buzz by announcing your suite on social media, sending out emails, and offering special “grand opening” promotions. At OMY! Beauty Suites, we created a multipurpose room so that professionals were not confined to their Salon suite. The multipurpose space is intended for professionals to enhance their brand and customer experience. Consider hosting a grand-opening event for all of your clients. This will create a better relationship with your clients and help you get exposure at the salon! (think about how many eyes you will get when people come in!)
6. Prepare for opening day!
Think about what will make your suite feel like home to both you and your clients. From mirrors and lighting to chairs and cabinets, each detail adds to the experience. At OMY Beauty suites, our suites come move-in ready, but adding your personal touch is what makes it yours. BUT DONT OVERTHINK IT! This is one of the biggest things I see professionals get stuck on. They're too fixated on what they look like, or how they compare to other people offering their services. You need to soak up your individuality and just perform what you are good at. Not getting enough clients? Skip to the basics and reach out to people who might benefit most from your servies. Hand out cards. Don't be shy. make social media posts. Build your clientele until you are able to pick your ideal clients because working on clients who are not ideal, will lead you to exhaustion.
Opening your own suite isn’t just about renting a space, it’s about stepping into your power as a business owner. Our goal is to slingshot you into a world of freedom that you can look down on, and say "I did this!"
At OMY! Beauty Suites, we’re here to make sure your journey is as smooth as possible. From competitive rates and on-site support to our unique content days and community atmosphere, everything we do is designed to help you grow.
Your suite is waiting. Are you ready to take the leap?
